Walk and Talk Therapy

We are wired to connect with nature. “Walk and Talk” Therapy or “Park Bench” sessions offer a relaxed, outdoor alternative to traditional counselling.

Instead of meeting in a traditional therapy room, we take a gentle walk through a nearby park or sit on a shaded bench – depending on what feels most comfortable for you – while exploring the challenges you’re facing. Walking side-by-side or sitting together in the peaceful surroundings of nature often feels less formal and more conducive to open, honest conversations. The fresh air, natural surroundings, and gentle movement—or moments of stillness—can help you process thoughts and emotions in a way that feels less pressured and more grounding.

These sessions are designed to create a safe, calming space tailored to your needs while harnessing the therapeutic benefits of being outdoors.

Why Walk and Talk?

  • Movement and Clarity: Walking in nature can help release tension from the body, which often aids in clarifying thoughts and reducing anxiety. The act of walking can enhance the flow of conversation, making it easier to talk through difficult topics.
  • Connection to Nature: The calming effect of being surrounded by trees, fresh air, and open space can be profoundly healing. Nature has a way of reducing stress and promoting mental clarity, which complements the therapeutic process beautifully.
  • A Comfortable Environment: For many, walking side-by-side rather than sitting face-to-face can make it easier to share and reflect. The informal setting helps foster a more comfortable atmosphere, where you can feel free to express yourself at your own pace.
  • Mind and Body: Walk and Talk Therapy supports both mental and physical well-being. The physical activity of walking, combined with the emotional exploration of therapy, creates a holistic approach to healing and personal growth.

Is Walk and Talk Therapy right for you? If you feel more relaxed outdoors, or if sitting in a traditional therapy room feels too restrictive, Walk and Talk Therapy could be a great fit. It’s particularly helpful for those dealing with anxiety, stress, or feeling “stuck,” as the movement and environment can help shift perspectives and bring fresh insights.
